It’s finally summertime. What better way to celebrate than creating a killer summer playlist?

Here are some opera tunes to add to your summer jams playlist.

“Summertime” – Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin

This classic makes living in the heat of summer easy. Whether you’re listening to the original opera version, the celebrated Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald album, or this sample by Sublime, there’s no better piece of music to add to your summer playlist. Watch Audra McDonald (who returns to LA Opera in concert next season) perform the aria here.

“Hymn” – Akhnaten by Philip Glass

Akhnaten is all about the Sun God. In Act II, he sings a 13-minute hymn in worship of the sun god, Aten. If you love the sun as much as Akhnaten, why not show your praise by playing this hymn on the beach?

“La Fleur que tu m’avais jetee” – Carmen by Georges Bizet

Look no further than Don José’s flower song for a romantic aria to spice up your summer (and fall when you come see our production this September). In it, he professes his love to Carmen and says the flower she gave him kept his hope alive in prison.

“The Flower Duet” – Lakme by Leo Delibes

If “The Flower Duet” sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve probably heard it in this advertisement or while boarding a British Airways flight. This summer, listening to “The Flower Duet” is the perfect way to relax while going through airport security.

“Belle Nuit, O Nuit d ’Amour” – The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach

After soaking up the sun, unwind to the melodic “Belle Nuit, O Nuit d ’Amour” from The Tales of Hoffmann.
