On Nov. 17, LA Opera honors Plácido Domingo 50th Anniversary in Los Angeles with a special concert conducted by Maestro James Conlon. The performance will feature appearances from veterans of both the operatic stage and the big screen, with our very own LA Opera Orchestra in the pit.
In anticipation for the big night, here are five things you can expect from the Plácido Domingo 50th Anniversary Concert!
Hollywood Star Power
Opera singers aren’t only ones billed to appear at the 50th Anniversary Concert. From Orange is the New Black actress Uzo Aduba to Grammy Award-winning singer Garth Brooks, the performance will feature a slew of Hollywood’s biggest names.
Opera’s Most Accomplished Singers
Of course, you’ll also see some of opera’s most respected singers as well. Those paying tribute to Domingo include sopranos Ana María Martínez, Nino Machaidze and Liudmyla Monasyrska, tenor Michael Fabiano and more.
Opera’s Greatest Hits
In addition to the roster of superstar artists, the program will feature some of the most popular and beautiful arias, duets and chorus pieces from the operatic repertoire. From La bohème to La Traviata, there will be tunes from nearly all the classics.
Young Artists Galore
Nearly all of our current singers from the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program will be featured in the concert. Additionally, YAP alum such as Janai Brugger will be featured as well.
Plácido Domingo — Singer and Conductor
This may seem like a given, but Domingo will celebrate his own anniversary both on-stage and in the pit. How rare is it to see Maestro Domingo in both roles in the same night (the last time it happened is in 2015 for Gianni Schicchi/I Pagliacci, singing the title role in the former and conducting the latter).
